Why WEB Focuses on Women’s Business Development
Kauffman Foundation Data on 4,928 start-up firms, studied by gender of ownership:
- 45% of women-owned businesses are sole proprietorships, compared with 33% of men-owned businesses
- Almost 40% of women-owned businesses studied used less than $7500 of start-up capital
- About 65% of men used $25,000 or more of start-up capital, compared with 55% of the women in the study.
- After two years, the men-owned firms were larger in terms of assets and revenues; were more likely to employ workers in addition to the owner; were more profitable; and had a 4.5 percentage point higher survival rate.
